Jorduggla (Asio flammeus) Short-eared Owl

Den flög över vägen framför vår bil och satte sig på en stolpe bredvid vägen. Jag trodde att bilarna skulle skrämma iväg den men den brydde sig inte om dem.

It flew across the road infront of our car and landed on a pole next to the road. I thought the cars would scare it away but it didn't care about them.

Ett tofsvipe par tyckte att den kom för nära och började jaga den.

A lapwing couple thought it was getting too close and started to chase it.

Björktrast ungar ~~ Fieldfare babies

De är stora, kaxiga och ser alltid ut som om dom har attityd problem.

They are big, cocky and they always look as if they have attitude problems.

De första dagarna ur boet är de i "hoppåldern" och de hoppar runt på marken. De har inte fallit ur boet och föräldrarna finns oftast i närheten för att mata dem.

For the first days out of the nest they are in the "jumping age" when they jump around on the ground. They haven't fallen out of the nest and the parents are often close by to feed them.

Efter det så tar de sig upp på trädgrenar och är lite svårare att se.

After that they get up on tree branches and are a bit harder to see.

Medan de är på marken har de ett stort problem. De sitter stilla för att inte bli sedda och hamnar ofta under hjulen på bilar eller under gräsklippare. Illa.

While they are on the ground they have a huge problem. They don't move to avoid being seen and end up underneath the wheels of cars or under lawnmowers. Not good.

Det är min son som visar hur nära man kan komma utan att de reagerar. Han kunde ha plockat upp den.

Vi hittade denna ungen tillsammans med 4 döda syskon på marken under ett träd. De verkade alla vara för små för att ha lämnat boet frivilligt.

We found this baby together with 4 dead siblings underneath a tree. They all seemed to young to have left the nest voluntarily.

En meter bort hittade vi en till. De blå "strecken" är fjäderpennorna som inte har vuxit ut färdigt.

A yard away we found one more. The blue "lines" are the feather pens that isn't fully grown.

De låg väldigt illa till i parken där många hundar, katter och skator håller till. Medan vi var där kom det en hund som ville fram till dem, så vi bestämde att vi inte kunde lämna dem där de var.

They were in a very bad spot in the park whith many dogs, cats and magpies around. While we were there a dog showed up and tried to get to them, so we decided to move them.

Vi flyttade dem ett par meter till ett ställe med mer gräs att gömma sig i. Kaxiga som de är så passade de på att tigga efter mat.

We moved them a couple of yards to a place with more grass to hide in. Cocky as they are they took the opportunity to beg for food.

Det är ingen idè att försöka "rädda" dem genom att ta hem dem och mata dem. Oftast så kommer föräldrarna till baka till dem, och oftast så dör de utan föräldrarna även om man matar dem.

There is no point in trying to "save" them by taking them home and feeding them. Most often the parents comes back to them, and most often they die without the parents even if you feed them.
